You Got a Light?

Man

Have you ever witnessed something that made your day?  Something that made you happy inside and outside. This happened to me last Saturday. I was on my way to an early meeting and the streets were empty. I was driving to the meeting with my music on, windows down, and then it happened. I was at a red light and I was the only one at the intersection. I saw a man walking on the sidewalk towards my direction. When he got to the intersection he stopped and a few minutes later yelled, “you got a light?” I smiled and shook my head no. Then he raised his arms and said, “Well, Praise the Lord, I woke up today.” Then he walked away. I wish I had thought of it sooner, but I took a picture of him as he walked away.

After my meeting I met a friend for lunch and I witnessed a young couple saying Grace before their meal. I smiled because in just a few short hours I witnessed a man giving Praise and a couple giving thanks. It felt like I ran into some relatives.  Wait… we are related aren’t we?

Brothers and sisters, God loves you, and we know that He has chosen you to be His people. I Thessalonians 1:4

Maybe God sent those people to me as a reminder that His people are everywhere. He’s everywhere. Maybe it was a test to see if I was going to judge the man and ignore him. Maybe it was a reminder from God that we’re all His children. Even the man on the corner.

A lot of people probably would have ignored the man and maybe on a different day I would have. I’m glad I didn’t ignore him.  He asked me for a light and ended up sharing his with me. Do you have a light?

Take the Day Off

Are you spending enough quality time with yourself? I’m not talking about time to go shopping or get a pedi. I’m talking about time for you to breathe, pray, cry, or whatever you want to do without anyone around?

I recently shared with some coworkers something I used to do when my son & daughter were young. I told them that every so often I used to take a day off during the middle of the week and I wouldn’t tell anyone I was taking off. I would tell my husband in the morning (after he went to work).  I would spend the day either straightening up my house, having lunch with a friend, or laying around all day. My coworkers thought this was the greatest idea ever.

tenor

What I wish I had started doing years ago was beginning my day slowly. I remember I used to hit the snooze button a few times then I would run into my day. A few years ago I began easing into my day. Makes a big difference. I now take time in the morning to get my mind right for what’s coming. I also take in what’s been given to me. Another day.

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. Lamentations 3:22-23

Since I started this morning ritual, it has become one of the things I value most. It’s when I get my mind, body, & spirit right. Cause if they aren’t right, my time everywhere else won’t be right.

relaxation-techniques

On game day, athletes don’t just show up to the game and play.  They spend hours before the game preparing themselves for the next few hours. When you think about it, we’re all playing in a game called life and it can take a lot out of us. Like an athlete, the more prepared you are, the better you’ll perform. The more rest and exercise you give your body, the happier it’ll be. The more God you have in your life, the better you’ll feel. Take some time for yourself. Better yet, take the day off and don’t tell anyone.
